It’s 2017, Im rushing through the airport from my grandmother’s house in Bulawayo 🇿🇼. As I reached the queue to check in, I tapped the guy in front of me and asked if this was the line for Johannesburg🇿🇦. He turned around, and standing before me was the hottest guy EVER!! My brain short-circuited for a second, but I somehow managed to hear him say, “Yes.” Turns out we have come from the same street a few houses down!!!
We chatted briefly (great conversation btw) before parting ways in Johannesburg, and to my absolute shock, this man did not ask for my number 📞 . I mean, HOW?! Did I not look cute? Was my travel glow not glowing enough?! ( come to find out later on, I was cute enough he was just in a relationship at that time) 😅 , I hopped on my flight back to the UK 🇬🇧 and just thought it was a passing moment.
Fast forward almost a year later—I’m back in Bulawayo for my great-grandmother’s funeral, stuffing my face with sausage and chips, walking down the street on my way to drinks🍷 , when I spot someone staring into a closed shop window. Wait… was that… HIM?! Hottie from the airport last year! He turned, saw me, and immediately recognized me. This time, he asked for my number! (Damn right! 😂)
We became friends for the next two years (way longer than necessary, if you ask me), then he finally asked me out. Five years later, I was walking down the aisle in the most stunning gown, marrying my bestest friend ever—my homie, my right leg, inhliziyo yami. ❤
